Day 1: Beijing

If you are traveling to Beijing by yourself, please meet the group at the Beijing airport.
A city tour will be arranged for the guests arriving with group flight. Arrive in Beijing, the capital of China. Visit the CAPITAL MUSEUM, one of the major museums in Beijing. The museum houses over 200,000 cultural artifacts, most of which are from Beijing. Then explore to NANLUOGUXIANG, one of the best preserved hutongs in downtown Beijing. Stop in one of the coffee shops or look through the many boutiques that line the lane ways. (L/D)

Day 2: Beijing Ulaanbaatar

Fly to Ulaanbaatar. An expansive country, Mongolia remains sparsely populated, though all walks of life converge upon the capital, Ulaanbaatar. Visit SüKHBAATAR SQUARE, located in the center of Ulaanbaatar. It features monuments to figures from Mongolia’s history, both ancient and modern. Then visit the WINTER PALACE OF BOGHD KHAN, the only remaining residence of the eighth Bogd Khan, or emperor of Mongolia. Dinner is a Mongolian-style hot pot. (B/L/D)

Day 3: Ulaanbaatar

Travel to the starkly beautiful GORKHI-TERELJ NATIONAL PARK outside of Ulaanbaatar to witness the park’s diverse natural wonders such as the glacial Khagiin Khar Lake and the Yestii Hot Springs. The park also features many distinctive rock formations such as the TURTLE ROCK a curious rock shaped like a turtle. Lunch is a meal of Mongolian barbecue. Afterwards, visit the GENGHIS KHAN EQUESTRIAN STATUE. It is the largest equestrian statue in the world, fitting for a country so connected to the horse. The complex underneath this magnificent statue provides a panoramic view over the brand new and intricately planned statue site. (B/L/D)

Day 4: Ulaanbaatar

Learn about the history of Mongolia at the NATIONAL MUSEUM OF MONGOLIAN HISTORY. Then visit the GANDANTEGCHINLEN MONASTERY, the largest monastery in the country. Afterwards, pick up some souvenirs at the STATE DEPARTMENT STORE. (B/L/D)
*During the Naadam Festival, the activities in Day 4 will be changed to watching Naadam performances.

Day 5: Ulaanbaatar Beijing

Fly to Beijing. Depending on arrival time, visit the historic QIANMEN DISTRICT in Beijing before a dinner of PEKING DUCK. (B/L/D)

Day 6: Beijing Hohhot

Fly to Hohhot, the capital of the Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region. Visit the TEMPLE OF THE FIVE PAGODAS, considered one of the most beautiful buildings in Hohhot because of its distinctive five pagodas that surround a small temple decorated with intricate Buddha carvings. (B/L/D)

Day 7: Hohhot Ordos

Visit the PROVINCIAL MUSEUM to learn the local history and culture. Later visit the TOMB OF PRINCESS ZHAOJUN, which, according to local Mongolians, is the only place where grass and trees will grow in autumn. Then drive to Ordos. (B/L/D)

Day 8: Ordos Yinchuan

Ordos City is famous for its production of cashmere. Visit the nearby GENGHIS KHAN MAUSOLEUM. The tomb does not contain a body though, as the Tomb of Genghis Khan has never been discovered. In the afternoon, board the coach to Yinchuan and enjoy the beautiful views along the way. (B/L/D)

Day 9: Yinchuan

Yinchuan is the capital of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. The city that has a history of more than 1,300 years was originally founded in 678. It was called Western Xia from the establishment in 1038 by the leader of Dangxiang ethnic group and had created splendid culture as well as gorgeous architecture. Visit the WEST XIA IMPERIAL TOMBS, where nine imperial tombs and 253 lesser tombs have been unearthed since 1972. Then travel to SHAHU LAKE. Being a desert oasis, this lake is the perfect place for bird watching or, for the more adventurous, sand dune sledding. (B/L/D)

Day 10: Yinchuan

Travel to the YELLOW RIVER MONUMENT. Located on the banks of the Yellow River, known as the “mother river” in China, this monument is a tribute to the birthplace of ancient Chinese civilization. Then travel to see the HELAN MOUNTAINS ROCK PAINTINGS. Dating from 770 BCE to 1227 CE, these paintings were drawn by China’s northern nomadic tribes. Paintings range from simple herding scenes to colorful and ornate images of humans and animals, and provide important information on ancient Chinese culture. Have a taste of the local cuisine as your dinner. (B/L/D)
